Unfortunately this building owner was not aware of Local Law 58\/09 which went into effect back in February of 2010. This law states&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Standpipe &amp; Exposed Sprinkler Piping <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All buildings, no matter the size or occupancy, must have all exposed standpipes and sprinkler piping painted red. The law does, however outline specific exceptions, such as branch piping <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <strong>Standpipe Valve Handles<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> Dedicated standpipe valve handles must be painted red<\/li><li> Combination standpipe valve handles must be painted yellow<\/li><li> Dedicated sprinkler valve handles must be painted green<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Color Coding Certification<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Building Under Construction<\/strong>: The special inspector will confirm compliance before the walls are enclosed.<strong><br>Existing Buildings<\/strong>: Owners of buildings with exposed sprinkler piping and standpipes must comply and hire one of four types of contractors to certify the color coding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Licensed master plumbers<\/li><li>Licensed master fire suppression piping contractors<\/li><li>Registered design professionals<\/li><li>People with the appropriate Fire Department Certificate of Fitness<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Proof of Color Coding Certification<\/strong>: The color coding certification must be kept on the premises at all times for Buildings and Fire Department inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full documentation of Local Law 58\/09 can be found <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/assets\/buildings\/local_laws\/ll58of2009.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
