This system is the most common form\nof fire protection because it is simple and effective at controlling a fire. In\na wet system, the sprinkler pipes are filled with water and the sprinkler heads\nare closed. When a fire is detected, the sprinkler heads closest to the fire\nwill discharge water onto the flames. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dry System Fire Sprinklers <\/strong>\u2013 Dry pipe sprinkler\nsystems are different than wet systems as they do not have water in the\nsprinkler pipes. Dry systems are found in cold applications where water in the\nsprinkler pipes has a potential to freeze. Unheated warehouses or freezers\nusually have dry sprinkler pipes to avoid pipe freeze ups and bursts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Deluge Systems<\/strong> \u2013 Deluge sprinkler systems are used\nhigh hazard applications. In buildings where fires have the potential to cause\ncatastrophic damage, deluge systems are installed because they create total\nflooding to quickly extinguish a fire. Deluge systems are a dry pipe system\nwith all sprinkler heads open. When a fire is detected, the deluge valve\nreleases all the water through the pipes and all the open sprinkler heads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pre-action Sprinklers <\/strong>\u2013 A pre-action sprinkler system\nis installed in areas where accidental activation needs to be avoided. Two\nsteps are required for water to discharge. The sprinkler is a dry system so\nfirst the pipes need to be filled with water and then each individual head\nneeds to be activated separately to allow water to be discharged. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Water Mist Systems<\/strong> \u2013 Water mist systems use very fine\ndroplets of water to suppress a fire. These systems use less water than\ntraditional sprinkler systems.
