Every year since 1922 the NFPA has recognized Fire Prevention Week on the week of October 9th<\/sup>, in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire. The Chicago Fire of 1871 killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 people homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures, and burned more than 2,000.<\/p>\n

In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge made Fire Prevention Week a national observance. This year, FPW is <\/strong>October 6th<\/sup>-12th<\/sup> 2019. During FPW, the public is educated on fire safety and prevention. Learning how to prevent fires is extremely important for your safety and the safety of those around you.<\/p>\n
